Hyderabad: For the first time in the city, the officers of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) intercepted a passenger at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) in Shamshabad and seized gold paste weighing 1,850 gms from his hand luggage.
Officials said the smugglers wanted to make the gold paste into gold biscuit after receiving it from the passenger but officials caught him at the airport.
The 30-year-old passenger, who arrived by SpiceJet flight SG-1314 from Madurai to Hyderabad in the early hours of Saturday was checked at the arrival hall of the airport. He was found to be carrying two packages in his hand luggage containing paste weighing 1,850 grams, which on further examination turned out to be having gold content of 1,120 grams valued at more than Rs.34.57 lakh, an official said.
